"Dalton Discovers the Ten Commandments"
...the Second Commandment...
"YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF A CARVED IMAGE"
“Dalton! What are you doing??”
Dalton’s mom was in the car waiting on him… “You are going to be late for school!”
she yelled… he was trying to hurry but he wasn't getting the answers he needed.
Every day before he went anywhere he would check his magic ball. Dalton’s magic ball was a green ball that he would shake and turn upside down. There was a little window in the bottom that would show a “YES” or a “NO” when he turned it upside down. “Am I going to pass my spelling test today?” As he was turning over the magic ball to see what it said…”YES”… YEA…!” Okay one more question…. “DALTON! I am leaving!” his mom said. As he came running out of the bedroom he carefully clutched onto his magic ball…he would have to ask the questions on the way to school.
...Homer watched as Dalton got out of the car...curious as to what he was doing. He asked Dalton about it ...
It sounded like Dalton was “worshiping a carved image”. -- Do you know what a “carved image” is? It is anything that you
make more important that God. -- Homer asked Dalton if he knew what “worshiping” was. Dalton said, “Sure, I do. It is what we do in church, we worship God.”
“Well, did you know that you should worship only God?” “What else would I worship?” asked Dalton. When Homer told him that it seemed like he was worshiping his magic ball, Dalton was confused. As he turned to ask Homer more, he was gone. Well he would ask mom and dad about it tonight.
At supper they talked about his visit with Homer again...
They talked about what the Second Commandment meant –
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image”
and how they would, each day, make sure they did not put anything more important than God.
It is so easy to do...put things before God...make it a point to show your children through your actions how to always put God first!
