He then told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not become discouraged:
In other words....we can talk to Jesus any time...never lose hope...
It can be difficult to explain this concept to a child.
How we should pray always.
If you wake your child up in the mornings before school...
that is a time of needed prayer.
"Jesus, be with _______ today as we prepare for school. Keep us safe and guide us to be the person you want us to be, full of grace and mercy and love. Allow _____________ to do well in school, to have the understanding and knowledge that he/she needs. In Jesus name AMEN.
They may not be fully awake, that is ok.
As you are preparing to drive to school, when everyone is buckled in and ready; another opportunity...
"God, keep us safe in our travels this morning, be with all those we come in contact with today that they may see You in us. In Jesus name AMEN"
During the drive home after picking up the children and listening to their day stories.
"Lord, thank you, thank you for a good day at school, please be with ______________(child's friend that is having trouble) as he/she is struggling. Continue to be with us this evening that all we do be to Your Glory". In Jesus precious name AMEN
After a while the children will certainly expect this and even involve themselves more in the actual prayer time.
Another great example is when you are out in public, you see someone in the grocery store or restaurant or even on the street, maybe even a car accident...you can pray for them quietly but with mercy. You can ask your waitress as you prepare to pray at the restaurant if he/she would like for you to pray for them. At a point when the children understand "pray always" you may even hear them talk about how they prayed at school for someone who was struggling.
Then they can begin to understand how important it is to talk to Jesus all the time...not just at mealtimes!
Jesus wants us to talk to Him all the time.
