When we pick up Kendall we have about an hour and a half to spend at the house with her. This past Wednesday I needed to bake a persimmon pudding, normally she likes to cook with me and she started to that day, but when she found out it was persimmon pudding, which she is not to fond of, she decided she would do something else... so onto play dough she decided!
As i was paying attention to the measurements, and the mess and the dirty bowls of baking I turned around to see her exclaim her delight in creating a "fruit salad"!
Being in the kitchen with grandchildren can be messy, and the finished product may not be exactly the way you would want it, but the joy that comes from them "creating" is priceless.
When I first started using a "smart" phone I was one of those who did not want to give up my trusty "flip" phone. It did exactly what I needed, make phone calls. So when my husband brought home the new phone i was not an easy sell...BUT I have come to my senses after some good training...
Our oldest grandson, Dalton, made a deal with me after I asked him for help with the phone several times...his deal - I will help you learn how to use your phone if you teach me how to make a cheese cake!
DEAL! He made the cheesecake and I can use my phone pretty well.
He has many, many times helped me in the kitchen create some cool things so it was really an awesome feeling to know that he enjoyed the cooking that much...I would say that was a pretty good deal!
Take the time when they are young, introduce children to the wonderful world of baking, cooking, even cleaning up afterwards...you never know what you may instill upon them...use the time you have them "captive" to share Bible verses, Bible stories and how much you love them and how much Jesus loves them!
